My writings: Poetry: A play for two

The story is sad, actually very sad.
The participants seldom know that they are
participating in this play of rejection and guilt,
she feels rejected for thousands of reasons
but in the end only one - the rejection of her inner truth
that has dug an endless deep hole and filled it with pain,

and he is feeling guilt over not being enough,
not being able to relieve her pain,
the pain that destroys the beloved one's life. Her life.
Who is he, if he doesn't have the magical powers
to end her pain?

She is accusing him of not caring enough,
of not being there for her when she needs him,
and she fills her life with more hate and bitterness.

And he is afraid of losing her and
of being alone again, alone with his own pain.
He is trying to do his best, but deep inside
he knows that it's not going to be enough.
All the rules he must obey to please her aren't enough.
New rules are added and make him forget the old ones
distressed by this, he makes errors -
she gets even more rejected by this - and he guilty -
there isn't much place for love -
and control is the ruler of the game.

They are trying to repair the pain by control
but pain can only be healed
by acceptance, openness, and sorrow.
Acceptance of what has happened,
openness about the past and desires
and sorrow over the dreams that aren't fulfilled.

And trust, the trust that the other doesn't
want to hurt them even if the story that has to
be told is one of a broken heart, of the love to
someone else, that they can't forget or forgive.

The stakes are high
and this play isn't a one-man play - it's played by two
and both have the right to leave it.
Both have the right to say: I don't want to play this anymore.
